MEDIA RELEASE – YOUNG PEOPLE INVITED TO WORKERS RIGHTS FORUM

28 September 2011

Young people in the electorate of Brunswick have been invited to a forum to share their experiences of any unfair treatment in the workplace.

The forum has been instigated by the Brunswick Youth Action Committee (BYAC), with the support of the State Member for Brunswick, Jane Garrett.

State Member for Brunswick, Jane Garrett said she had invited young adults in the electorate join the BYAC early this year and it had met on a regular basis since then.

“The purpose of the committee is not only to act as a forum to convey issues of importance to young people in our area, but also to help in the formation of youth and other related policies,” Ms Garrett said.

“One of the key themes raised early by the group was the issue of rights and unfair experiences in the workplace and they suggested a forum as an opportunity for others to share their experiences.

“Along with being able to share their experiences and voicing an opinion about the issue, the forum also will be an opportunity to ask questions, with union representatives on hand.

The forum will be held on Monday the 10th of October, 7pm in Meeting Room E, at the Brunswick Town Hall.
