Visitors and funeral processions will have safer access to Yarram Cemetery thanks to an $18,000 grant from the Andrews Labor Government.

Member for Eastern Victoria, Jane Garrett said the improvements will make it safer for drivers and slow-moving funeral convoys to enter and exit the facility in the 100km/h speed zone.

The current entrance to the Yarram Cemetery is located on the Hyland Highway in a 100km/h speed zone. The current entrance is unsealed gravel with unsealed shoulders.

The Yarram Cemetery Trust secured the grant to deliver the upgrade, which will include sealing the cemetery’s Hyland Highway entrance and surrounding road shoulders.

Drivers exiting the site can enter the highway and accelerate to road speed more quickly and reduce the impact on highway traffic approaching over a nearby crest.

The funding comes from the Labor Government’s Flexible Local Transport Solutions Program which provides funding for local transport initiatives, services and infrastructure in regional Victoria.
