SWANS CELEBRATE NEW FEMALE FRIENDLY PAVILION
Wednesday, 13 June
Sale’s passionate footballers now have female friendly facilities at Baldwin Recreation Reserve, thanks to a funding boost from the Andrews Labor Government.
Parliamentary Secretary for Jobs and Member for Eastern Victoria Jane Garrett today officially opened the upgraded facilities, made possible with a $100,000 grant from the Labor Government’s Community Sports Infrastructure Fund – Female Friendly Facilities.
Ms Garrett also announced that Sale United Soccer Club has received $217,487 from the Community and Facilities Fund to install a sports lighting system at Baldwin Park Reserve.
The reserve is home to the Sale ‘Swans’ United Football Club, which has been an integral part of the Sale community for more than 40 years, with 220 players competing in the Latrobe Valley Soccer League.
In recent years the club has been experiencing strong growth with women and girls signing up to play, however the old pavilion was in desperate need of an upgrade to bring it up to modern standards.
The old pavilion has been transformed and now boasts female friendly change rooms including unisex toilets and showers, female friendly umpires change rooms, kitchenette and storage, with all facilities fully accessible.
The upgraded facilities will give the club the opportunity to welcome more female players and people of all abilities.
It will also provide club officials with greater flexibility to schedule training and competition, as well as enable much greater use of the reserve by local schools and the community.
The Government is strongly committed to sport and active recreation, gender equality and encouraging all Victorians to get out there and get active. Across Victoria, the government has invested more than $850 million in community sport and active recreation infrastructure since 2014.
The Government also acknowledged project partners Wellington Shire Council and Sale United Football Club for their commitment and investment in the project.
