Thankyou from the Save Moreland Bluestone’s Action Group

On Wednesday the Moreland City Council finally listened to the overwhelming voice of the community and preserved our beautiful heritage laneways. Today I received a lovely letter from the Save Moreland Bluestone Lanes Action Group.

“Dear Jane, you were there from the beginning! Thanks to you and your wonderful team for all your support.  With Moreland Council’s decision Wednesday 11th of September, Moreland has become a Bluestones City and its beautiful network of  bluestone lanes, kerbs and channels will be protected.

I have always believed, and I made it clear in 2012 to Council that “like the many things that make up our suburbs, these bluestone laneways are part of the fabric  and amenity of our area which many people have grown up surrounded by and likewise one of the many reasons people have chosen to live here. Like our streetscapes, these laneways have just as much cultural and historical significance, as they do for other inner suburbs.”

I am extremely proud of the hard work and persistence of our community in making sure that this important part of our city is maintained and I know that Moreland and Brunswick will be a more liveable neighbourhood for all of us with these laneways in place.
