NEW SHARED PATH TO CONNECT SOMERVILLE AND BAXTER
Mornington Peninsula locals will soon be able to walk or cycle even further along the Peninsula Trail network thanks to the Andrews Labor Government’s Growing Suburbs Fund.
Member for Eastern Victoria Jane Garrett today announced on behalf of Local Government Minister Shaun Leane that Mornington Peninsula Shire Council will receive $3 million towards the Somerville to Baxter Shared Path from the latest round of the Growing Suburbs Fund.
The Shared Path will connect the towns of Somerville and Baxter and deliver an identified missing link in the Peninsula Trail network, improving the trail’s safety, access and length and expanding the network.
The Growing Suburbs Fund helps Melbourne’s rapidly developing interface and peri-urban councils deliver vital community infrastructure and has invested $26.5 million into 20 projects in the Mornington Peninsula, including a new Integrated Youth Services Hub in Rosebud and the Mornington Community Hub.
Since its establishment in 2015, the Growing Suburbs Fund has facilitated over $1.07 billion in local infrastructure, created more than 10,200 jobs and supported 299 projects across Melbourne’s fastest-growing areas.
