The growing female ranks of football and netball players at Stratford Recreation Reserve can say goodbye to outdated change rooms, with the Andrews Labor Government supporting the construction of female friendly facilities at the club.

Member for Eastern Victoria Jane Garrett today announced the reserve’s facilities are being upgraded to support the growing number of women joining the clubs, thanks to $500,000 from the Labor Government’s Female Friendly Facilities Fund.

The project will increase the number of home and away change rooms – adding a dedicated umpire change facility, change facilities for netballers, separate storage, access to trainer’s facilities, and public/family amenities close to the courts.

With more women and girls signing up to local sports teams than ever before, the Female Friendly Facilities Fund is part of the Labor Government’s commitment to sports and active recreation, gender equality and encouraging all Victorians to get active.

The Labor Government has invested over $850 million in community sport and recreation facilities across Victoria since 2014.

“More women than ever before are signing up for local sports teams – but too many clubs are being held back by outdated or non-existent facilities. We’re proud to be making sport accessible to everyone in Gippsland.”
